US Democrats Vow To Fight For Net Neutrality

Net Neutrality

We are currently approaching the first month since the FCC in America repealed the protection regulation on Net Neutrality. While to this point, admittedly, the sky hasn’t fallen, many like myself fear what is to come.

Since the vote, fortunately, most of the other countries in the world have resisted the temptation to follow America’s folly in this regard.

Politically, it has been a bit of a tricky one in the US. While President Trump shrewdly managed to keep himself out of the public attention in regards to this issue, it was clear that the repeal was supported by the Republican party. It was, however, an endorsement without anyone actually really saying so.

In a report via Reuters, it seems that the Democratic party in America is attempting to seize the initiative in this regard by vowing to fight for Net Neutrality.

Democratic Party

Politically, it could be a good move. For many these days, the internet is as require a utility as water and electricity. I know, first world problems, right? But it is the truth. In addition, the FCC did itself no favours what-so-ever by releasing a video the day of the repeal to seemingly mock the supporters of Net Neutrality.

Some of the supporters included major key figures in the development of the Internet such as Vint Cerf and major online companies such as Facebook and Google.

The Democratic party might find that if they proceed with this line, they might find a lot of support from younger voters. Particularly given that part of their declaration includes the intention to create a Senate vote on the matter. In fairness though, since the Senate is currently Republican controlled (and by a significant margin) I’m not sure what good it will do.

What do you think? Will such a move (if genuine) prove a good politic stance for the Democratic party? – Let us know what you think in the comments!
