Users Rage Over Payday 2 Support-Stop on Last-Gen Consoles

When Overkill announced that Payday 2: Crimewave Edition was coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 back in February as well as continued support for the game until 2017, a lot of people got excited for the chance to play the heist game on the current generation consoles.
In the announcement was something most people read past in the excitement for the new versions and all the new content promised – both paid and free – and that was the announcement that the company would cease the update development for the last generation consoles, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Q: Will you continue to support PAYDAY 2 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3?
A: In connection with this, we have decided to retire the PAYDAY 2 update development on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We wish we could provide more updates. For a long time, we’ve been looking at how we could add more updates from a technical standpoint. Sadly, we now understand that it’s impossible to continue doing so.
As said, many people didn’t notice that part and they’re now taking their rage out on twitter and similar social media platforms. But really, no one is to blame here, it just reached a natural stopping point where that 10-year old hardware can’t handle things anymore.
@Supa_Fresh_Sikh @Uncle_Gmima We know you're pissed. And we hate it too. More info here: http://t.co/Uf739eDAoT

The developers are equally sad that they can’t continue the work, but there just isn’t anything they can do about it.
“We wish we could provide more updates. For a long time, we’ve been looking at how we could add more updates from a technical standpoint. Sadly, we now understand that it’s impossible to continue doing so,” the statement reads. “For those of you who play Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and have been looking forward to new updates, you’ll be pissed when you hear this. We hate this too, because there’s nothing we can do about it.”
@Darkerson We're upset too, but it's impossible to do. Here's some more info: http://t.co/0QhNwr6kA7

505 Games offered a discount on the new PS4 and Xbox One version for pre-orders up until launch, but there weren’t any loyalty bonuses for the old generation console users nor could that take their savegames with them to the new console. As such there weren’t many players that took advantage of it.
This is just one of many instances we’ll see where this will become an issue for those who refuse to upgrade their hardware for one reason or another and we can expect more and more developers to drop support for the older generations in the future.
