Valorant on PS5 Won’t Include Gyro Aiming to Maintain Fair Play

Riot Games has announced that Valorant on the PlayStation 5 will not include gyro aiming. This decision aims to prevent Xbox players from being at a disadvantage. Gyro aiming, which allows for more precise control, is supported by the PS5’s DualSense controller but not by Xbox controllers.
Ensuring Competitive Balance
Coleman Palm, product management lead at Riot Games, explained that the exclusion of gyro controls was a conscious decision to maintain a level playing field. If gyro aiming were included, PS5 players would have a significant advantage over Xbox players. Riot Games wants to avoid favoring one platform over another, ensuring fairness in crossplay.
While some developers consider gyro aiming to be the closest experience to mouse and keyboard on consoles, Riot Games decided to focus on more standard control schemes. They aim to provide a consistent experience for all players, regardless of their platform. Palm acknowledged that while gyro aiming is exciting, the priority is to support players on both consoles effectively.
Future
Despite the current decision, there remains interest within Riot Games for gyro aiming. Palm hinted that there are team members enthusiastic about the technology, suggesting that it might be revisited in the future.
