While originally scheduled to start shipping last month, Valve’s upcoming Steam Deck was delayed until February to ensure that better levels of supply could be brought to the market. And particularly for those who went in early with their pre-order. With that being said though, given the continued global chipset shortage, it was still a matter of curiosity as to whether the Steam Deck would still arrive next month.
Well, following a report via RockPaperShotgun we have some exceptionally encouraging news. While Valve hasn’t nailed on guaranteed it, they have confirmed that, as things stand, the Steam Deck is firmly on track to start shipping out to pre-order customers next month.
With this in mind, those who placed their nominal pre-order fee for the Steam Deck should shortly expect to receive an email asking for payment of the remaining sum. Well, those people who ordered the system within the first few days of it being listed at least. – If you came a bit late to the pre-order party, you can probably not expect your system until at least the latter part of Spring. Demand is high, and so were the initial orders!
If nothing else though, it is encouraging to see that despite all the challenges and difficulties the tech world continues to face, the Steam Deck should be a consumer reality within the next 4-6 weeks!
“First and foremost, we’re on track to ship Steam Deck on time. Global pandemic, supply issues, and shipping issues notwithstanding, it looks like we’ll be able to start getting these out the door by the end of February” – Valve
Early indications, including those from Valve themselves, suggest that the Steam Deck will be entirely capable of being able to play literally anything the platform has on its colossal market. As such, while it’s not cheap, for what effectively represents a portal PC gaming gateway, the Steam Deck definitely has a lot of interest! – While orders placed now are not expected to be fulfilled until at least the latter part of Summer 2022, if you do want to learn more, you can check out the official product website via the link here!
