Valve Give Steam a Refresh With The Discovery Update 2.0

Valve has finally released a bit of a makeover for Steam, with the release of The Discovery Update 2.0, which gives a much more presentable look to the platforms store pages. The new updated adds new tools, features, and functionality, as well as the ability to customise what you can and cannot see, giving you more power as a consumer while browsing the store.

“The Discovery Queue has been a great way to discover new, popular, and recommended titles that you might not have expected. We’ve further expanded the queue to allow you to filter out products with specific tags or to exclude other types of products you’ve marked ‘not interested’.” – Valve

There’s more information on screen, yet everything is still easier on the eye and much easier to read too; the quick access options on the left are pretty handy too. New games now have a dedicated page, making it easier to browse new releases. There is much more detail for game recommendations, which is a welcome addition, as is the improved algorithm for suggesting them. The most powerful tool, however, is tag filtering. Don’t want indie or racing games, or both? Filter their tags, you’ll never see that type of game.

“We’ve been iterating a bunch on User Reviews since we first released them. The most recent update posted a snapshot of what reviews look like for the most recent 30 days, providing an idea of what the current state of a game might be. This update also added a new list of the most recent reviews so that the newest customer opinions can be easily found.” – Valve
Check out the official release from Valve, which gives you a little more detail on the new features and what you can expect.
