It’s time to strip back the Steam we know and love and give it a bit of a refresh. It seems that Valve is already preparing a new update for the Steam Store, and I certainly welcome it, as I’ve been starting at those pages for too long over the years and they’re pretty cluttered, images are too small, heck, you can’t even zoom within Steam!
Valve are wanting to make changes to help cater the marketplace to individual tastes, which makes sense. This will include reducing clutter, adding a left-hand nav column with links to personalised areas, curators and friend activity. Another interesting feature is being able to set global preferences for all parts of the store. You can set what genres you like, or dislike the most, perhaps even allow you to filter out things like Free-to-play or sports (for example) completely from your store and recommendations. You’ll also be able to hide VR, Early Access, non-games (software, videos, etc) and keep your store focused on what you love.
The update is sorely needed and we can’t wait to see it in action. Love it or hate it, it’ll be upon us in just a few weeks.
