According to UploadVR, Valve’s latest project is an upcoming Half-Life game. However, before you get your hopes up, know that this is not going to be Half-Life 3. Instead, it will be a Half-Life prequel game. The twist is that the game will be entirely set in Virtual Reality. This game is also apparently not just for any existing VR headset system. Instead, it will be for Valve‘s own upcoming VR headset.
UploadVR has the scoop and photos of this supposed VR headset prototype. This prototype shows SteamVR tracking photodiodes under the plastic. It also seems to have two cameras visible and has integrated headphones. These will apparently use the latest Valve “knuckles” type of VR controller.
Up until now, Valve has teamed up with HTC to produce the Vive VR headset, but it appears that they are forging ahead with a new strategy moving forward. So it also makes sense that they have a flagship game to go along with the hardware.
The photos of the prototype were supposedly taken in July this year. So that means it most likely has been updated several times by now. Although so far, Valve has been very quiet about any Half-Life or VR related projects. Especially close to the Holiday season. So this most likely will not be available for a while.
The big question is, what will be on the Half-Life prequel? So far, we only have UploadVR’s sources to go by with. A prequel suggests that this might not even involve the lead character Gordon Freeman at all. Although it might also be set in Black Mesa as well. We would just have to wait and see. After all, this is the closest thing to a Half-Life 3 we are probably going to get.
