Such a sensational bit of news would normally blow my mind, have my jaw hit the floor in disbelief, but quite frankly these days it just feels like the boy who cried wolf. There have been so many rumours, leaks, hint, denials, backtracks and more surrounding Half-Life 3 and quite frankly after nearly 10 years I doubt this game could ever live up to its own reputation. Of course I hope I’m completely wrong and that the game is so good that we all crown Gabe Newell as our new leader, or at least something close to that good.
While the registered patent is the first bit of legitimate news we’ve had in ages, it really is just the first step and it stands to reason that this could either be the first step in development with zero work done on the title, or that things are moving along nicely, time to brush of the top secret project name for something more official, but I’m sure well start learning more as Steam OS because more of a thing.
What makes this even better is that we have a second confirmation that Half Life 3 exists, while the patent office is often a great source for legitimate information, the Valve bug tracking site. The site is an internal development system really, but it does point towards a development team working on the game and this would be their resource for… well, fixing and tracking bugs in the game if that part wasn’t already obvious.
So two solid pieces of evidence, but I’m still not convinced, it’s been so long I think Gabe is going to have to turn up to my house and tell me in person to make it seem real.
