Valve working on Living-Room-Friendly PC Gaming Package

According to Kotaku who interviewd Gabe Newell at the Video Game Award that was hosted recently, Valve’s Boss Gabe Newell said that Valve’s current goal is to figure out how to make PCs work better in living rooms and expects them to start selling PC packages made for living rooms by next year.

He also said that the reaction of Steam’s Big Picture interface has been stronger than expected, and now their next step is to get Steam Linux out of beta and work on developing their own hardware. Newell did add during the interview that if anyone wants flexibility, then a general purpose/gaming rig system is the way to go and what Valve is working on, is more for people who want a Turnkey solution and to have a more user-friendly living room. If Valve pulls this one off successfully, then this will be the most closest competitor against a console which are already living-room friendly from the start.

Newell added, “I think in general that most customers and most developers are gonna find that [the PC is] a better environment for them because they won’t have to split the world into thinking about ‘why are my friends in the living room, why are my video sources in the living room different from everyone else?’ So in a sense we hopefully are gonna unify those environments.”
