Various Business Twitter Accounts Hacked By ‘Elon Musk’
Elon Musk is certainly no stranger to Twitter controversies. If we take just the last few months as an example, his (now infamous) remarks about taking Twitter private have landed him in a lot of hot water. It has led to him being required to step down as the company chairman and also pay a $20m fine. There is still the matter of a criminal investigation, however, how far that will go remains to be seen.
It seems, however, that ‘Elon Musk’ is playing some tricks on Twitter again. Fortunately, this time, it isn’t actually the man himself. Rather, in a report via the BBC, a number of high profile Twitter accounts have been hacked and have started posting scan messages from a user purporting to be the Tesla CEO.
Who Has Been Affected?
While the attack was thought to have been made specifically on a number of verified accounts (those with the blue tick) it has been confirmed that at least Matalan, Pathe UK and publisher Pantheon Books were successfully targeted. From there, the fake ‘Elon Musk’ account has posted various scam posts. Usually circulating around the Bitcoin variety of ‘you send me 20 and I’ll send you 200 back’.
These Are Scams!
To the best of our knowledge, Elon Musk has not started working for Matalan although I do hear they are hiring Christmas staff. As such, if you encounter anything like this, just report it or ignore it. It’s a common tactic to use high-profile public figures for these scam attempts and Twitter has been fighting a long battle to ban the accounts.
It is, however, something rather amusing in the fact that they did decide to use Elon Musk for this. I daresay he’ll have something to say about it on his social media later.
