Vega is one of the most anticipated products in recent years. It’s thought to be a strong competitor for the high-end Nvidia GPUs, while also being a completely new architecture from AMD; something we’ve not seen for quite a while.
AMD are not a daft company, as they didn’t give too much away today at their press conference. Of course, we wanted a boat load of performance specifications on show, but they’re playing it safe, at least for now. What we did see is the insane upcoming 16-core Threadripper processor paired up with two Vega GPUs. They were playing Prey on the screen and of course the performance looked simply incredible.
The game was running at 4K resolution, with ultra-settings applied, although we’ve no way to confirm that yet. The frame rate looked pretty epic either way, and we’re eager to see what a 1 x Vega graphics card and a Ryzen 7 CPU combination can do too.
No specific date was revealed as of yet, but we now know that it’ll be launched at Siggraph 2017. That event is set to take place from July 30th, 2017 through till August 3, 2017 so not long to go before all is revealed.
