Final Thoughts

Price

The Vertagear Racing Series S-Line SL5000 Gaming Chair is available right now from major retailers. You can pick one up in your colour of choice from Overclockers UK for just £289.99. I will admit, that’s twice as much as the “budget” gaming chairs on the market, but it’s more than twice the quality. Not of that cheap foam over wood here, just thick metal, durable springs and thick PVC leather; you get what you pay for.

Overview

I’ve been a fan of Vertagear chairs for a while now, but surprisingly I haven’t owned one before. I use them a lot at gaming events and a few friends own some of their chairs too. I’ve never had any issues with their build quality and they’ve been great to sit in while gaming. Now that I have one in the office, my experience and opinion of them is unchanged.

If anything, I think this chair is a little hard wearing at first. A few people who tried it did comment it was a little tough, but it’s meant to be. Keep using it, and it will wear in and become more forgiving, while also lasting many years before it fades. The durable materials help hold you in a good posture too, which is going to be good for your back. I prefer the slightly harder chairs for that reason, as they keep my Sciatica in check.

Adjustable

Being comfortable is important while at your desktop, as putting stress on any part of your body for any period of time can lead to injury and long-term discomfort. With full backrest adjustment, adjustable armrests, tilt lock, a swivel base, and height adjustment, you’ll have no issues kicking back exactly how you desire. If you’re so inclined you can pretty much lay flat back in the chair too.

Materials

While not the most premium chair in the world, it’s hardly lacking in quality. PVC leather looks great and is incredibly durable and easy to maintain. Add to that the aluminium five-point base, Class 4 gas lift, and high-density foam, and you know you’re getting a quality product.

Should I Buy One?

There’s a huge subjective factor here, as not everyone will love the design. However, Vertagear makes a few colour options available, so there should be one out there that suits your taste. Personally, I love the black and red, but the all-black model is pretty slick too. It’s about twice the price of entry-level gaming chairs, but it’s sure to last a lot longer than they would. You buy a cheap chair, you’ll likely need to replace it within 12 months. Plus Vertagear provides a two-year warranty, which is added peace of mind.

Pros

  • Durable build quality
  • Hard-wearing PVC leather
  • Three-way adjustable armrests
  • Lumbar and neck cushion included
  • Two-year warranty
  • Trusted brand name
  • Competitive price (per spec and build quality)
  • Easy to build on your own

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  •  A little hard wearing out of the box, but it will wear in over a few weeks
