Vine is Twitter’s video service and its popularity is growing rapidly. Unsurprisingly it is has been popular than Instagram on Twitter for quite some time thanks to Twitter natively integrating it into their website yet it is also taking Android and iOS by storm.
On iOS Vine is now the most popular free app (at least it is at the time of writing) and Instagram is languishing down in 15th place. If Vine can maintain this type of popularity on iOS then it bodes well for its Android success as iOS has a huge number of users capable of influencing other Android users.
On Android, at the time of writing, Vine was taking fifth place whilst Instagram was taking fourth place. The two apps have been occasionally swapping back a forward for the past few days now and we should expect to see a more clear difference between the two apps emerge over the coming weeks. Yet Vine isn’t being received that well by users on Android with an average rating of 2.7 and nearly more 1 star ratings than 5 star ratings.
What we all want to know is will Vine still be this popular in say 6-12 months from now? Or will it just be a short-lived social media trend? What do you think?
