Viper V560 Laser Gaming Mouse Review

Final Thoughts

Price

With an MSRP of just $39.99, the Viper V560 is certainly affordable and much cheaper than I would have expected given the range of features. Of course, Viper has a lot to prove right now, so it makes sense that they would try under price the hardware to try to gain some exposure.

Overview

I’m a little torn with this mouse, on one side I simply don’t like it as it’s a little gaudy looking for my personal tastes, even though I can see that it is a pretty cool looking product regardless of what I want on my desktop. The sensor performance is good, but could feel just a little smoother, however at this price range, it’s still perfectly competitive and put simply, if you want better, you’ll be paying more for it.

At this price range, the market is very competitive, but Viper has come out swinging by cramming an impressive array of features into this mouse that we would often expect to come with a moderately higher price tag. The ergonomic design is certainly unique and while the ability to change panels to change the grip type is nothing new to the market, it’s still a very welcome feature overall and expands the number of people who the V560 will appeal to. The weight tuning system is a little over engineers in my opinion, given that most mice just have the weights plug into the base of the mouse, but I do like the ejectable drawer mechanism and it works perfectly well. It’s nice to see a mouse with ceramic plates on the base for exceptional glide on virtually any surface. Teflon works great too, and it’s certainly subjective on which you prefer, but the V560 feels fast and nimble on its feet.

Viper has also done really well with the software, it’s an easy place to cut the budget, but they didn’t and with the features available in the software, and on the mouse, we can see that Viper has had a little practice at deploying them to market and it should give them a solid base to build from with future gaming mice in the (hopefully) not too distant future.

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Unique aesthetics
  • Modular ergonomics
  • Weight tuning system
  • Good overall performance
  • Affordable price
  • Fully programmable
  • Good software

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • Aesthetics are a little over done
  • Viper is still a new name on the market and it’ll take time to see how they perform long-term
  • Would like to see an optical version available

“Viper may be the new kid on the block when it comes to gaming mice, but the V560 shows that they can produce a competitive product at a fair price, with a great range of features to suit virtually any kind of PC gaming.”
