Viper V730 LED Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Final Thoughts
How Much Does it Cost?
The Patriot Viper V730 Mechanical Keyboard is priced very nicely at just £69.99. However, I’ve seen it priced up to £15 less than that in some sales too, making it one of the most affordable brand-name mechanical keyboards you’ll find on the market today. It’s a bargain, no doubt about it. However, if you want the more expensive Patriot Viper V760 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, that retails for around £99, While you can pay £25 more again for the Viper V770.
Overview
Again I find myself saying that Patriot can do no wrong with their latest peripheral lineup. For any minor flaws or lacking features on this keyboard, I can’t complain simply because it was designed to be more affordable, and it certainly is more affordable. For me, I would have like a removable cable, as they’re easier to replace should it fail. I’d like the wrist rest detachable too, but for them to come up with a design that looks like a premium removable unit by creating an all-in-one design is a cracking compromise.
Build Quality
Where it matters, the V730 is well made. The aluminium chassis design looks fantastic, and it provides a robust base for mounting the mechanical switches. This gives the keyboard a great feel and overall typing response. On the underside, it does look a bit cheap, but it’s chunky plastic in all the right places to keep things as they should be, so can’t really complain. The inclusion of a braided cable helps sweeten the deal too.
LED Lighting and More
The red LED lighting is a nice break from the RGB rainbow show we usually have. Despite not having more colours, it still looks great, and it serves a purpose of making the keyboard easier to read too. The added effects are cool though, they’re not needed, but they do enhance the aesthetics, and I’m sure some will find a good use for them. However, it’s the inclusion of Fn-Shift multimedia control and shortcuts that really help, especially if you play music while gaming, as you won’t have to tab out to skip tracks.
Should I Buy One?
At this price range, you’re not going to find better than this. There are loads of features here for the money, as well as some big perks like the built-in wrist rest, multimedia controls, LED lighting, and that aluminium chassis. Overall, it’s a great addition to the Viper range and a great entry point for those wanting their first mechanical keyboard too.
