Virtual reality is gearing up to take the gaming industry by storm, as hardware makers, software developers and game studios prepare to appease gamers.
Realistically, virtual reality is still in its infancy and the market will need to mature, but gamers will have a lot to be excited for moving forward. Several VR headsets will be released in the next 12 months, and there is significant media attention reaching casual gamers.
Both VR hardware and software is being developed, with game studios also internally testing how to integrate VR into future titles. Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are dabbling with virtual reality, but haven’t promised anything to gamers just yet.
During the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, virtual reality technology was a major draw, wowing attendees. Not surprisingly, Facebook-owned Oculus drew a tremendous amount of attention – and with consumer release expected around the corner, now is the time to get gamers interested.
In addition, Sony was showing off its Project Morpheus to media and attendees at E3, and the Japanese electronics giant expects VR to go mainstream sooner rather than later. To woo gamers, Sony showed off game titles such as Castle and Street Luge to demonstrate how virtual reality can enhance gameplay.
Over the next year, gamers will have easier access to VR hardware and game titles designed to be played using Oculus, Project Morpheus, and other VR hardware. Get ready for a fun gaming experience in the near future, everyone!
