Microsoft has withdrawn official support for Windows Vista SP1 systems, to continue to get support users must upgrade to SP2 or move to Windows 7. Having only been around for 4 years Windows Vista is certainly one of the shortest Operating systems in Microsoft’s portfolio and one of the most expensive failures.
Mainstream support for Windows Vista will by phased out on April the 10th 2012 but Business users will be given additional support for a further 5 years after that date. Therefore that means as of next year Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Basic N and Home Premium of all services packs will be unsupported by any further microsoft updates. This means that Windows XP will outlast Windows Vista as it is cut off in 2014 not 2012.
It is also therefore been made very unlikely that a Windows Vista SP3 will be released given the close proximity of the end of Windows Vista and now Microsoft is assuming most users will make the move to Windows 7 or potentially face the security repercussions of not doing so.
