Now that the hardware part is pretty much taken care of, it’s up to VR game developers to start rolling out some nice titles for us to play. As it turns out, it looks like there’s already a fully-fledged VR game out there available through Steam’s Early Access program. The game that we’re talking about is named Raw Data, and it was designed for HTC’s Vive headset, which is why it is able to deliver an immersive cooperative first-person shooting experience. The storyline has you infiltrating a seemingly benevolent corporation named Eden and steal some data in order to reveal its true nature, and obviously there’s going to be quite a lot of fighting along the way.
Once inside, you’ll have to face waves of androids that are tasked to take care of any intruders, and you’ll be able to use a wide array of weapons and skills in order to survive and move on with your mission. Thanks to the HTC Vive’s controllers, gamers will be able to experience “hand-on-hand” combat to a certain degree, while head and body tracking systems provide a feeling of physical presence within the game. That being said, one of the title’s main highlights come in the form of a multiplayer mode, which allows users to team up and fight these metallic assailants.
Raw Data features Nvidia’s own VRWorks Multi-Res Shading system, which was reportedly implemented in order to increase framerates by up to 30%. Naturally, in order to be able to enjoy this game, you’ll need to play it on a VR-ready graphics card such as the GTX 970 or the newly-released Radeon RX 480, both of which meet the minimum requirements.
