VTX3D Radeon HD 6850 X-Edition Graphics Card Review

Being the first card from TUL/PowerColor/VTX3D/Vertex 3D or whatever you want to call them, we went straight in with our eyes wide open to see if they can compete in this already tough market. They had to be able to offer something that no one else can match and in a way they have.

Sure the card looks pretty standard, and if not a bit plastic and cheap looking, but the colour scheme works and it all cuts down costs, which is a major factor, especially in this climate where money is the root of all evil and everyone is out to get the best deal they can.

Looking at how the card performed, we were quite pleasantly surprised as it offers some great performance that was quite close to the GTX 560Ti and 6970 in places, especially at particular resolutions. Now that we’ve started to test using Eyefinity resolutions too, it shows the true potential behind AMD based cards and how they cope with the scaling that’s involved behind this fantastic technology. This card really does scale well and shows some great potential that just requires the user to tweak to their liking as you will have to sacrifice quality with sheer awesomeness, but that’s a small price to pay when running Eyefinity, and it’s the same situation with all other cards on the market, not just this one.

These results are all helped by the slight overclock that VTX3D have put onto this card, raising the core clock by 25MHz and the memory clock by 200MHz effective. Whilst these numbers don’t sound like anything to shout about, we can see from the performance, of almost keeping up to the other cards in our tests, that it really does make a difference.

Now the main aspect of this card, comes down to the price and at £119.62, it certainly is a great bargain, as we saw, it manages to keep close behind and sometimes even ahead of the more expensive Club 3D GTX 560Ti Green Edition that we used for comparisons and that is around £50 more expensive.

We set out with this review to check out VTX3D as a fairly new brand to us, and to see what they can offer when comparing to other similar cards on the market, and the outcome really is a pleasing one for VTX3D, as they offer exactly what they wanted, and can compete in this tough market that we see constantly change, but somehow they manage to do it all, but for a lot less money to the consumer.

Now I’m not sure if it’s just me, but if I can get exactly what I want, but for cheaper, I’m the kind of guy whose going to jump at the chance, and that’s why this card is definitely one to consider.
