It looks like The Walking Dead is headed to LA, with both TV Line and Variety reporting that AMC will based its upcoming spin-off of The Walking Dead in Los Angeles.
The companion series to The Walking Dead, which is currently set in Atlanta, Georgia, will begin airing next year. The pilot for the spin-off will be filmed early next year, with the new show to explore “what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world” according to AMC’s President, Charlie Collier. The network announced a second series to The Walking Dead last year, with the new series featuring a totally new story and a bunch of new, never-before-seen characters, and “another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”
Robert Kirkman, the series’ creator will continue on as executive producer alongside Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. Kirkman has teased that the new series has nothing to do with the original comics, which will make for an interesting turn of events for The Walking Dead. Kirkman said last year “After 10 years of writing the comic book series […], I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”
