Any self-respecting PC gamer in the early 2000’s had a copy of Warcraft 3. It was the epitome of PC gaming at the time and arguably one of the best examples of it.
Combining real-time-strategy with base-building and a compelling storyline made Warcraft 3 a classic on launch. It is really hard to understate just how good it was.
While the RTS genre is moderately dead at the moment, it didn’t stop rumors emerging that Blizzard Entertainment might have been considering a remake. This was all, but, confirmed when Blizzard began actively advertising jobs.
If the report via PCGamesN is to be believed, however, Warcraft 3, the remaster, is imminently set to be officially announced!
Well, the short answer is that we don’t know it as an absolute fact. Blizzard, has, however, issued some invitations which have come to the public attention which seem very suspicious.
The invitations have been received by a select few who have been invited to attend an offline Warcraft 3 event. In other words, no streaming, whatever this is will be live and in person.
Given that this is a Warcraft 3 specific event, it can surely only mean one thing. The remake is about to be confirmed!!!
Now, of course, there are other things this could be, but the chances that it isn’t are very slim indeed.
It is hard to understate the important of Warcraft 3. A bit of a no-brainer, but without it, we’d have had no World of Warcraft. Without that, online multiplayer gaming would be very different today.
Put simply? Exactly the same, maybe throw in the DLC packs, but the short answer is, except for the graphics, please, Blizzard, don’t tinker with this one too much.
Aside from the graphics (which haven’t aged well) Warcraft 3, even today is one of the finest RTS games out there. Blizzard doesn’t need to do much to breathe life into this, except, perhaps, resist the urge to tamper with it too much.
