Tritton Warhead 7.1 Wireless Surround Headset Xbox 360 Review

Performance wise I was expecting great things from this headset, and rightly so given that it isn’t exactly cheap, it has a feature list that puts most other headset to shame and even the look and feel of the thing makes you think “this has got to be good”. The whole system took me a few minutes to set, it was all fairly straight forward stuff hooking up the relevant cables and configuring the Xbox audio output settings.
The first thing I noticed was how powerful the headphone driver are, if you really like to rattle your skull with the sound of a roaring Ferrari engine in Forza 4 then this will facilitate that need and loosen your fillings at the same time, if you’re into that sort of thing. Personally I love a bit of loud music and thundering bass, but that’s no way to test a headset, so with the sound dialed back a little I was really able to appreciate the depth of the sound that these things product, the clarity way fantastic throughout while gaming offering a real wide audio separation when the surround sound features are in use, bullets fly past your ear, cars tear up behind you and explosions echo way off in the distance, for a console headset, and a wireless one at that the effect was simply stunning.
The same can be said for movies and music, performance wasn’t as sharp as it was while gaming, but still more than competent for sitting through a DVD or firing up NetFlix to watch a movie, even after a 5 hours of use I wasn’t feeling any strain from wearing the set. The surround effects are really good while watching a movie but being the movie buff I am, I really miss having that dedicated center speaker for the voice track.
