Warner Bros. Discovery has announced plans for a sequel to the successful video game Hogwarts Legacy. The company’s Chief Financial Officer, Gunnar Wiedenfels, revealed at a recent Bank of America conference that the development of the next installment is already underway. Wiedenfels emphasized that this project is “one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road,” according to Variety.
Major Focus for Warner Bros. Games
The original Hogwarts Legacy launched last year and quickly became a blockbuster, selling over 24 million copies. Warner Bros. is not only focused on the upcoming sequel but also aims to enhance its video game division, which is seen as a critical growth area for the company. Wiedenfels stated, “There is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.”
There are also rumors that Warner Bros. aims to release Hogwarts Legacy 2 around the same time as the planned reboot of the “Harry Potter” TV series in 2026. This would strategically align two major franchise expansions, potentially boosting the popularity of both.
Advanced Graphics and Possible Director’s Cut
Speculations suggest that the sequel might utilize Unreal Engine 5, promising improved graphics and performance. Additionally, there are unconfirmed reports about a Director’s Cut version of the original game, which could include new content and features. This edition, however, has yet to be officially announced by Warner Bros., although multiple sources have hinted at its development.
As fans eagerly await more news, Warner Bros. seems determined to expand the wizarding world of Harry Potter through both television and gaming, aiming to offer a more immersive experience for the audience.
Hogwarts Legacy is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
