The Super Bowl is often mana for film fans, with the prestigious game of gridiron’s ad breaks packed full of trailers and teasers for forthcoming movies. This year’s event was no exception, debuting new TV spots for no less than eight eagerly anticipated 2016 cinema releases, only one of which is not a sequel.
Our first trailer is another peak at the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, Captain America: Civil War. The sequel pits the embodiment of the Stars and Stripes, Captain America, against billionaire maverick Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in a row over superhero rights. The film also features the first appearance of Spider-Man in the MCU (sadly not featured in the trailer):
Jason Bourne is back in… Jason Bourne! Matt Damon returns to the franchise following the Bourne-less The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner:
After devastating the planet in 1996, the aliens return to make another mess of the Earth’s iconic cities in Independence Day: Resurgence. While Will Smith is curiously absent, resident kook Jeff Goldblum returns as David Levinson, alongside former US President Whitmore, played by Bill Pullman:
Perhaps the most visually arresting trailer on show was for Jon Favreau’s Jungle Book. Favreau, director of Iron Man and Chef, has adapted the Rudyard Kipling story – made famous by the 1967 Disney animation – as a mixture of live action and CGI, and features the voices of Idris Elba, Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, Lupita Nyong’o, Christopher Walken, and Scarlett Johansson:
We got a fresh glimpse of 10 Cloverfield Lane, the surprise sequel to 2008’s giant monster horror, Cloverfield:
“Everything they’ve built will fall!” wails the titular antagonist in X-Men: Apocalypse, the final film in the X-Men prequel trilogy:
The most bizarre offerings on show were two awkward teasers for Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, framed as an advert for Turkish Airlines (one of the film’s “commercial partners”) and its new flight routes to Superman’s and Batman’s home cities, respectively, Metropolis and Gotham:

Also, there’s a sequel to Michael Bay’s 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. So, that’s a thing:
