I Watched Over 1000 Movies and Didn’t Find my Perfect Headphones Until 900!

Firstly, I want to be clear that this is not a paid sponsored post, but just a more casual approach to a product review, in this case, the Audeze LCD-2 Closed Back headphones. Which Audeze were very kind enough to send to me for my movie project.

About the Audeze LCD-2 Closed Back

These are Planar Magnetic headphones, which is to say they use absolutely enormous drivers that measure 106mm and use their proprietary magnet array to drive them. This means they can reproduce sounds, accurately, down to just 10Hz, and up to 50kHz. That’s far beyond the range of human hearing, but frequencies you can’t hear still move the air, and still help shape the overall sound too, much in the way you feel low-end bass rather than simply hear it.

They can reproduce sound with a maximum SPL of over 130dB, which is just insanely high, but with <0.1% @ 100dB THD, they can retain their distortion-free clarity even at such high levels. However, keep in mind they’re 70 ohms impedance means you’ll need a punchy amplifier to drive them efficiently. I’ve been using a Creative SXFI AMP for a while, as despite its size, it can drive up to 600 ohms, but I have noticed the little amp does get quite warm after a while, so I’m looking to upgrade asap.
