A Way Out Developer Attacks PS4 Performance

The director of 2013’s affecting adventure Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons has taken a swipe at Sony’s PlayStation 4. Josef Fares lamented the PS4’s performance while speaking about his new game, A Way Out. A co-operative prison break experience, A Way Out took E3 by storm last week. Its development, though, was hampered by what Fares calls “a five-year-old PC.”

PS4 – “ Not So Strong as You Think”

Fares – a man who declared “I say what I want to say” – was quick to bemoan the PS4’s limitations. His words suggest that Sony’s hardware has hamstrung his intentions for A Way Out. He told Engadget:

“You want the honest truth? This machine is not so strong as you think. This is like a five-year-old PC. If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games. Most of the work developers put out there is to make them work on consoles.”

A Way Out

A Way Out is an innovative buddy game, utilising split-screen for local or online co-op play, even during cutscenes. According to Fares, the game is even better than the critically lauded Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Fares said:

“We can’t be categorized. It’s about whatever makes us, our heart go, that’s what we’re going to do. There’s no one-trick-pony or anything like that. I’m telling you, this game is going to be even better than Brothers, and the next game is going to be even better than that.

I believe you can make a big, AAA, big-budget title with innovative, different stuff. You just have to have the right person who believes in something. If you have a vision and a passion, nothing can stop you.”

A Way Out comes to PC, Xbox One, and PS4 early next year.
