WD took their highly successful My Passport portable hard drive for a redesign and overhauled the features to bring out the new My Passport Ultra portable hard drive and My Passport for Mac drives.
This is now the 7th generation of My Passport drives and they are now available with a capacity all the way up to 3TB while still maintaining the compact form factor and light weight.
Style is a matter of personal taste, so it is perfect that WD released the drive in four colours: Classic Black, Brilliant White, Wild Berry, and Noble Blue. My Passport Ultra also comes with built-in WD Backup software for easy backup of critical data.
Along with the new drives, WD also introduces a new optional accessory called the WD Grip Pack. It is a soft band that will be available in a variety of colours for extra style and protection: smoke, slate, grape, sky and fuchsia. A matching USB cable is also included.
3TB capacity might be too much for you, so the drive will be available in other capacities too. 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB version are available too. Features include 256-bit AES hardware encryption and USB 3.0 connectivity. Mac users seem to want more space than the average other user and the WD My Passport for Mac won’t be available as 500GB model.
My Passport Ultra and My Passport for Mac have a Manufacturer’s Suggest Retail Price (MSRP) ranging from $79.99 up to $199.99 depending on capacity. The 3 TB capacity will be available next month. Both versions come with a 3-year limited warranty. The WD Grip Pack will be available in June and for an MSRP of $12.99.
