WD Preparing Xbox Expandable Storage Options
Jakob Aylesbury / 2 years ago
Seagate has for a while been the exclusive provider of expandable storage for the Xbox series S/X consoles though now it seems that Microsoft is preparing options from other providers, specifically Western Digital (WD)
Western Digital Expandable Storage
Expansion cards for the Xbox console manufactured by Western Digital have been spotted on Best Buy in the US which is the first time expansion cards that aren’t manufactured by Seagate has been spotted. The unit spotted is a 1TB model with nothing about other sizes. The good news about this is that this 1TB drive is cheaper at $179.99 than the Seagate 1TB alternative which is at a very pricey $219.99.
Good Competition
For a 1TB expansion card $219 is a lot of money especially when you can get 1TB M.2 SSD’s for less than $100 which are able to be used with the competing PS5. Why on earth Microsoft decided to go the overpriced expansion card route I’ll never understand. Hopefully, with WD joining the market, the price of these Xbox storage drives will go down to a much nicer price.
