We Happy Few – ‘Joy’ Update Delayed Until August!

It’s We Happy Few news! Have you taken your ‘joy’ today? If you haven’t, you may want to as the next update to the excellent early access title ‘We Happy Few’ has been delayed. The good news is that the delay in the Joy update is going to help make drugs “bigger and better”.

We Happy Few have a few less happy now!

Yes, I know, always disappointing when a big update gets delayed, but you have to give credit to this project. From its initial early release, it wasn’t the glitch filled mess that most early access games are. It was a genuinely fun and playable experience.

Just to give a quick overview to those unfamiliar with the game. We Happy Few is set in a dystopian 1960’s London where all people must take drugs (Joy) to feel good. Failure to do so means you are breaking the law and as such the game is, put simply, a survival horror of sorts with you attempting to flee beaming British bobbies trying to club you.

The closer we get to a full release, the more excited the community is getting.

Compulsion, the development team for We Happy View reported the following to PCGamesN:

“Early Access is amazing, but it’s becoming very complicated to maintain both a regular update schedule and lock down the story. The Early Access build is currently separate to the story build; they share a code base, but the content is slightly different. So far, the content has been able to coexist side by side, but as we add polish and really lace everything together, but this is changing. The Parade District, in particular, is intertwined so heavily with the story that we don’t think we can deliver a good ‘Early Access’ version, unlike the other biomes.”

When is the game going to be released?

Since its early access release about a year ago, the game has been real progress in early access. The Joy update, which has been delayed, is scheduled to be released around August time. It is promised to be a ridiculously huge update allowing access to at least 2 new areas.

You always have to love new areas. We recently announced quite a large expansion (for free) to The Division. Any extra content is always good! As can be seen in my recent review of Constructor HD, I’m not a glowing fan of all games. We Happy Few is genuinely awesome, even in its current state.

A full release for the game is unclear, however, for PC owners, the early access is really decent well worth a look.

You can view the We Happy Few Steam page by clicking here. The highly positive reviews can attest that even for early access, this game is pretty awesome.

Alas, it is not included in the Steam Summer sale and at £22.99 might seem a little steep for early access, but you can’t have it all can you. Oh, hush up and take your ‘joy’!
