Western Digital is well known for their mechanical hard disk drives, both internal and external. But since they acquired SanDisk, they’ve also entered the SSD market. Now the company has released their fastest portable and first WD My Passport SSD drive.
“The WD brand is focused on delivering fresh, new personal storage devices that offer amazing performance in a beautiful, yet durable design,” said Sven Rathjen, vice president of marketing, Client Solutions, Western Digital. “Our fastest portable drive yet, the My Passport SSD is a powerful solution for people who need to move content quickly and easily wherever life takes them.”
The new MyPassport SSD features impressive speed ratings in comparison with the HDD brothers and sisters and it does so in a size that makes the drive fit into the palm of your hand. The drive has been rated for speeds up to 515M/s, exceeding the USB 3.0/USB 3.1 Gen.1 speeds. Naturally, that is thanks to the USB 3.1 Gen.2 interface that has up to 10Gbps throughput abilities. The drive uses an USB Type-C connector and comes with a Type-C to Type-C cable included. For compatibility, there’s also an adapter included, allowing you to use it with classic Type-A USB ports.
The drive has been built for use with Windows PCs, but it is also compatible with Mac OS systems. My Passport SSD also offers peace-of-mind with 256-bit AES hardware encryption and password protection as well as being drop tested from a height of 6.5-foot and being shock-resistance to withstand 1500G of force. All in order to help you keep your precious data safe.
The new WD My Passport SSD comes in three different capacities, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. As for the price, the three models come with an MSRP of $99.99, $199.99, and $399.99 respectively. All three models are backed by a three-year warranty and they will be available this calendar quarter.
