Western Digital EX2 2-Bay 8TB My Cloud NAS Review

WD My Cloud GUI & Power Consumption

The My Cloud user interface is, as we would expect the same as that found on the other systems in the My Cloud family. With a desktop application for quick and easy access to your files, along with a mobile application for access on the go, the user experience is pleasant and straight forward. For a device of this nature and especially when we take into consideration its intended user group – ease of use is fundamental.

More screen shots of the My Cloud GUI can be found in my review of the EX4 here.

Power Consumption

As expected, the EX2’s power usage is nice and low. This is partly down to its 2-bay design and its low power CPU, but on those systems that come with drives pre-installed, this is one of the areas where WD’s RED NAS drives excel. Further more, the power figures that were recorded with our test sample were consistently lower than those laid out by Western Digital in the full specification.
