New NVMe Options from Western Digital
Mobile World Congress 2018 is not only about phones and laptops. Storage manufacturer Western Digital also took the opportunity to launch their new PC SN720 and PC SN520 NVMe M.2 SSDs. It appears to be using an in-house controller boasting the fastest yet seen from WD.
The PC SN720 supposedly reaches read speeds of up to 3,400 MB/s, saturating the PCIe Gen3 x 4 interface. It is available in capacities ranging from 256GB to 2TB, and uses an M.2 2280 form factor. It also has an endurance rating of 500 TBW with a 5-year warranty.
The PC SN520 on the other hand runs at half the PC SN720 with read speeds of up to 1,700 MB/s. It is available in capacities ranging from 128GB to 512GB and leverages the PCIe Gen 3 x 2 interface. Unlike the PC SN720 with its uniform size, the PC SN520 is available in M.2 2230, M.2 2242, and M.2 2280 sizes depending on capacity. Its endurance rating is also slightly less at 300 TBW, although it shares the same warranty length of 5-years.
How Much Are the PC SN720 and the PC SN520 NVMe SSDs?
Western Digital did not reveal pricing information yet at this time.
