It wasn’t that long ago that we saw a major break through in hard drive platter technology which allowed companies to produce 1TB drives in a 2.5″ format, something that had taken very long to achieve. Now Western Digital has brought up the next stage for 2.5″ drives relatively quickly and is reportedly readying 2TB drives in the 2.5″ format.
Although Western Digital are yet to officially announce this drive it is known it will debut as a My Passport range of external hard drive. And it will be primarily aimed towards users of Apple computers since like the rest of the My Passport Studio line it comes pre-formatted for Mac OS. The decision to neglect USB 3.0 in favour of two FireWire 800 ports is a slightly dubious one but none the less with a retail price of around €215-239 Western Digital clearly think Apple owners will be serious about this product.
No specifications are known about this drive but the launch is imminent so we can expect more details in time.
