‘Westeros’ Trailer Shows Modern-Day Game of Thrones

Now that season seven is over, we’re facing a two-year wait for the eighth and final Game of Thrones season. However, fans are now abuzz over the prospect of a modern-day retelling of the show. A trailer, purporting to be for “Westeros The Series,” teases that very thing. The slick YouTube clip shows what our world looks like when it clashes with the mythology of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy epic.

Take Game of Thrones, add a smidge of Mr Robot, and muddle with House of cards. That’s Westeros The Series. We’ve got Prime Minister Lannister speaking to the nation on BBC News about “rumours about the North”; the shadow of a dragon flies over Targaryan Square; and there’s snow (both the real thing and cocaine) and shagging. It’s probably not real – the clip feels like a (very-well produced) fan project – but the concept is certainly intriguing.
Who Made Westeros The Series?
No one knows for sure, but speculation points at German comedian and presenter Jan Böhmermann. Böhmermann is known for producing spoof videos. Indeed, his most famous effort is the following V for Vendetta parody:
