Wii U day-one updates won’t be baked into factory consoles until next year

Wii U owners should know the pain of day-one updates by now with their fresh next-gen console, but it looks like Nintendo won’t be baking the updates into brand new consoles until next year.

Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, has said that it will be at least a couple of months before this happens. During an interview, Fils-Aime said “Nintendo developers want to make sure that the very best product is available to consumers”. Adding to this, he went on to say “that creates a dynamic where our developers are working on elements until the very last point possible. That’s why the system update was required on Day One – and this is quite similar to what’s happened with other consumer electronics products”.

Hopefully this happens sooner rather than later, because there’s sure to be more updates in the coming months – so by the time the factory-installed updates hit new Wii Us, there’ll be even more updates that will be released, requiring another updated console. A process that, well, never ends.
