British Smart Phone developer Wileyfox is preparing for the launch of their new phone, the Swift 2. Promising to be a competent smartphone at an affordable price, the company is even offering you the chance to get one for less than £70. A brand new smartphone for less than £70? There must be a catch. Well, yes. There is.
With the iPhone X currently at the top of the tree for smartphones, there is always a market for low-cost phones.
Wileyfox came onto the market originally 2 years ago with their original Swift phone. Being a pretty decent product, it found itself a little niche in the market. While the Swift 2 was originally planned for launch in August 2017, delays have seen it pushed back. A current date has it available December 18th and it will be sold on all major online retailers.
In what is a unique move for a smartphone company, Wileyfox is offering you the basic model of the Swift 2. There is, of course, a catch to this.
The entry-level phone, the Spark Plus, will be retailed at £119 while the Swift 2 Plus will be £189 reports Computing.
Wileyfox have, however, offered customers an alternative. If you can live with adverts on the lock screen the basic is as little as £69.00. Even the high(ish) spec top model is just with the advert option £119.00.
While this might sound unique and clever, this isn’t actually the first time this type of sales tactic has been deployed. You can recall the hideous gaming device/phone the Ngage. That also offered a less expensive alternative as long as you could put up with intermittent adverts.
If you are therefore one of those lucky enough to get an iPhone X, but unlucky enough to find out how easy it is to break, then the Wileyfox Swift 2 could make an awesome low budget alternative.
