Xbox One Will Not Support External Storage At Launch

Xbox_One_Controller

According to a podcast by Microsoft’s Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson Xbox Live community manager, the Xbox One will not allow gamers to use external storage at launch. The reason is that the Xbox One team are struggling to develop support on time for the launch and they have bigger things to worry about for the launch. They will of course bring external storage at a later date, or so they imply. The Xbox One will have a 500GB internal hard drive at launch which should be more than enough to keep Xbox One owners happy and should give Xbox developers enough time to fix the external storage problem.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 allowed gamers to use external hard drives but those hard drives had to meet quite strict compatibility standards. The Xbox One will probably be similar in its style of implementation. Speculation has also thrown up the idea that Microsoft may be forcing a delay of external storage to encourage gamers to start using Microsoft’s cloud storage services.
