Windows 10’s New Preview Build Includes Braille Support

The latest preview build for Windows 10 was recently pushed out to testers, and it looks like Microsoft’s newest version of its famed operating system will actually provide complete support for Braille. Build 15025 has now hit the Fast Ring, and it supports Braille in Narrator as a beta feature. In order to access this feature, though, you’ll need to head over to Settings and Ease of Access before finding the “Download Braille” button and “Enable Braille button.” Naturally, the function will only work when paired with a Braille display, but it’s still a welcomed addition nonetheless. Microsoft wants to help the visually impaired even more, though, which is why they added a mono audio option that allows users to listen to their screen reader program using a single earbud without missing out on any sounds.

The new build also offers special “Night Light Settings”, which allow users to tweak color temperature.  This helps minimize blue light emitted by computer screens in order to minimize their effect on sleep quality. Even though some modern monitors include similar built-in features, the Windows 10 version has a color temperature slider that works fully across its entire range. This means that if you really want to get rid of as much blue light as possible, you’ll be able to move that slider down to ‘very red’ (1200 K). Of course, the new build will also bring with it a generous number of bug fixes.
