Windows 11 doesn’t feel like it launched that long ago and for once time hasn’t escaped me as it really didn’t as it was only two years ago in October 2021. Now admittedly this launch wasn’t the best, it had various issues especially with TPM overall leading to a very low adoption rate. At the time many people joked about how Windows flips from bad to good between releases meaning Windows 12 could be much better than 11, the good news is we could find out soon in June 2024.
A report by The Commercial Times in Taiwan (Via PCWorld) has brought the idea of Windows 12 into the light during a recent medical conference. Comments were made by Barry Lam, founder and chairman of Quanta, as well as Junsheng Chen, the chairman and chief executive of Acer, which suggested Windows 12 will launch in June 2024. This claim can of course be a guess, but the firm belief is that Windows 12 will launch in 2024 and the summer.
So what exactly can we expect from Windows 12, well it is quite obvious that AI will take a huge front seat whether you like it or not. Windows 11 already features AI features including recently released Copilot, it is said that Microsoft will expand on this further.
“He expects that by the summer of next year, with the launch of a new generation of Windows operating system, AI PCs will also be launched, and the demand is still difficult to estimate, but it is ‘a good opportunity’ for the industry,”
This all coincides with the growth of processors featuring AI capabilities and AI focused computers which Quanta are working on and claim to be the “first to invest in AI PCs.” PC makers will also be meeting in New York with Intel on December 14th to launch these “AI PCs” which are likely to be seen at CES Las Vegas in January.
Hopefully Windows 12 corrects the problems of 11, but they may break the good, bad, good cycle.
