Witcher 3 & Cyberpunk Next-Gen Update Delayed into 2022

With CD Projekt Red confirming that next-gen updates were on the way for both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 earlier this year, I think it would be fair to say that the gaming community, as a whole, was significantly more interested in the latter than the former. No, Cyberpunk 2077 is nowhere near as awful as it was upon its launch, but let’s face it, The Witcher 3 is arguably one of the best games ever made, and having the chance to see its graphics given a total overhaul for both next-gen consoles and higher-specced PCs is all too tempting to resist.
With both titles planning to release before the end of this year, however, we have some bad news as following a Twitter post by CD Projekt Red, they have confirmed that the next-gen updates for both titles have now been delayed into 2022.
Witcher 3/Cyberpunk 2077 Next-Gen Update Delayed!
As part of the announcement, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that following advice issued by their team (which they clearly didn’t heed when Cyberpunk 2077 was released last year), neither title will be ready for their originally planned release dates. As such, they have confirmed that the next-gen update for Cyberpunk 2077 has been pushed back to Q1 2022, whereas The Witcher 3 will come out around Q2 2022.
Sadly, no specific dates have been provided, but we daresay that they’ve probably learned their lessons regarding that now!
What Do We Think?
With CD Projekt Red fighting off a lot of negative PR, and not to mention the huge hacking incident that saw masses of gaming source code stolen, it would have possibly destroyed what little good will they had left if they released either of these titles in a buggy or unfinished state. As such, while the delay is particularly disappointing for The Witcher 3, this is one instance where I can categorically say that I endorse this delay wholeheartedly! – Put simply, while Cyberpunk 2077 is likely pretty disposable now, The Witcher 3 is an absolute classic and if they manage to bork its next-gen update up… Well, let’s just say that it will test the remaining few hardcore fans they still have!
