The Witcher 3 Expansions “Almost Size” of The Witcher 2

CD Projekt RED, creators of The Witcher 3, have announced the paid DLC expansions will be set on a mammoth scale and similar in size to the game’s predecessor. In an interview with Gamereactor, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the director of The Witcher 3 said,

“The expansion packs will be whole new storylines with all the elements you’ve got in the main story (like cutscenes, new characters, new items, new Gwent cards) and many, many more. They will be quite long. The first expansion will be around 10 hours and the second expansion will be around 20 hours… and I think it’s possible that they will be bigger, because it’s always like this (that when we plan some time or hours, it’s twice or something like this), but I’m not promising anything right now. And even now, if you sum up this 10 to 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it’s almost the size of The Witcher 2. And it will be cool, it will be new stories, it will be very emotional stories and I think that people will be happy.”

It’s always refreshing to see a developer offer value-for-money expansions instead of reselling on-disk content or overpriced DLC. CD Projekt RED’s ethos revolves around consumer confidence which is emphasized by their free DLC programme since The Witcher 3’s launch. Sadly, the modern gaming industry with cosmetic DLC, season passes and microtransactions have made consumers quite wary of downloadable content. Hopefully, more studios will adopt this consumer-first ideology and ensure the term DLC equates to a lengthy and fulfilling experience.

Tomaszkiewicz also answered a number of other questions regarding future updates and the process behind the game’s development. Currently, the first pack entitled, “Hearts of Stone” is planned for released this Autumn with the next expansion, “Blood and Wine” coming in early 2016.

Did The Witcher 3 live up to your expectations?
