CD Projekt Red has released an update for The Witcher 3 for Xbox One X, finally bringing official 4K support to the game. This is good news for gamers playing on a larger screen, to see Geralt hack and slash in higher fidelity than before. The most notable difference is in the environment, as the Gods rays and the lighting in general looks sharper in 4K.
The patch also adds 60 frames-per-second support to the new console. However, those who expect 4K and 60fps at the same time are out of luck. The 60 fps option is only for 1080p, which is still good considering the quality. This 60fps “Performance mode” optiondials down the visual effects to achieve the framerate. It also uses dynamic resolution scaling which is common for many PC to Xbox One X conversions targeting 60fps. This update is great for fans who want the fast paced action feel.
The size of the download is only 550MB, bringing the The Witcher 3 up to version 1.60 on Xbox. Sony PlayStation 4 Pro users will also be getting an HDR update soon. Although CD Projekt Red did not reveal exactly when yet. Considering they already have the 4K option available since October, PS4 Pro users could stand to wait a bit more for the HDR support.
