The Witcher developer CD Projekt will unveil its new role-playing game tomorrow during a press conference, it has confirmed.
The appearance of Witcher 1 on Danish online shops today sparked speculation that CDP was set to announce Rise of the White Wolf for PS3 and Xbox 360 tomorrow during its planned press conference, but the Polish developer set the record straight with Eurogamer this afternoon.
The announcement relates to the game CDP attaches to a gun icon on the careers page of its website. It takes place in a “brand new setting”. If it features guns, this new RPG will be considered a departure from the fantasy universe of The Witcher.
This isn’t to say that Witcher 1 will NOT release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at some point in the future – CDP said it is planning Witcher related surprises for the second half of 2012 and for 2013.
CD Projekt’s head of marketing Michał Platkow-Gilewski provided Eurogamer with the following statement:
“We are gearing up for our upcoming conference and we have encountered some speculations concerning what we will be announcing.
“We would like to share some light about what will happen tomorrow. In regard to the Witcher, we are planning some surprises for the second half of the year and for the next year, but during the conference we will sum-up The Witcher and Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition also, we will give a bunch of new information. To make it really clear – we will not be announcing Witcher 1 for consoles.
“The major announcement on the conference tomorrow is related to the gun icon on cdpred.com career page. We will give you the first bit of information about our second AAA RPG in development. We have some really exciting news to share, so make sure join us at 5PM GMT on our live-stream: facebook.com/thewitcher.”
