World of Final Fantasy Release Date Announced

When it comes to upcoming Final Fantasy games, there are plenty to choose from. Of course, the headliner is the upcoming numbered game, Final Fantasy XV, but there is also another set to be released around the same time, World of Final Fantasy. This interesting take on the Final Fantasy series is set to hit both PlayStation 4 and Vita in October, with the worldwide released occurring almost simultaneously. The game will first land in North America on the 25th, with the Japanese and European releases following on the 27th and 28th respectively.
For those not in the loop, World of Final Fantasy is a tribute to the franchise, aimed to appeal to fans both young and old with its chibi art style and appearances from many favourite characters including Cloud Strife and Squall Leonhart. In order to facilitate this massive character crossover, the game will take place in a world named Grimoire, which acts as a container for the protagonists (and antagonists) from a number of the previous games in the Final Fantasy franchise. It may seem like an aside, with how it differentiates from other games, but Hiroki Chiba, the game’s director, says he expects players to take as much as 100 hours playing through the main story alone.
Certainly, releasing this game so close to Final Fantasy XV’s September 30th release date, many will likely still be indulging in that when World of Final Fantasy lands. This could be a shame as the game definitely seems ambitious and the result of a lot of effort on the part of Square Enix. Let’s just hope that the most sceptical fans will be able to look past the art style and see the true depth the game will contain.
