World of Tanks Players Have Raised More Than $80k for War Child

Wargaming and War Child have begun working on a fantastic project named Armistice Campaign last year, which basically allowed World of Tanks players to help children affected by conflict all over the world. The program involved purchasing special emblems and packages, and 100% of Wargaming’s proceeds would then go directly to charity. We’re pleased to report that the campaign was quite successful, as gamers managed to raise no less than $84,800 for this worthy cause. Just in case you’re not too familiar with War Child, it is an organization that strives to support children who have had their lives ruined by war.

Over the past four years, Wargaming has partnered up with War Child on numerous occasions, and it’s probably safe to assume that we’ll soon see a similar project pop up. The Head of Military Relations over at Wargaming, Richard Cutland, has issued the following statement:

“As a retired soldier I have witnessed first-hand the remarkable and invaluable work that War Child do in areas affected by conflict. I am extremely proud of both Wargaming and our fabulous community for supporting this incredible and invaluable charity.”

In turn, the General Manager Europe at Wargaming, Markus Schill, also had a few words to say:

“The relief and support War Child is providing to the weakest and most vulnerable victims of war – our children – has been truly inspirational for everyone at Wargaming. Through our support of museums we are striving to help preserve the memory and knowledge about armoured warfare and to raise awareness for the reality that real war is not a game. It is very humbling for us to see just how supportive of War Child’s immensely important work our community is and it is an honour for us to make this contribution in their name today.”

Finally, Wayne Emanuel, Gaming Development Manager at War Child offered a conclusion:

“At War Child we’re really overwhelmed by the generosity of the studios that took part. We’d also like to thank all the players who downloaded content or showed their support. War Child relies on support of partners like those who took part in Armistice to be able to provide our crucial work. We are already excited about the next Armistice where we hope we can build on this year’s fantastic efforts and raise even more!?”

In some parts of the world, gaming is still controversial, as it is being regarded as anti-productive and maybe even a waste of time. Whatever your opinion, though, you can’t deny that gamers have managed to make a true difference in the lives of innocent war victims by supporting a worthy cause, and that definitely counts for something.
