Elon Musk, since his acquisition of Twitter, has been successful with one thing, confirming that he is not the “genius” that people paraded him about to be a couple of years ago. His name change from Twitter to X was one of those things that confirmed his business tactics are strange. Today it appears this name change has bitten him in the arse as X Social Media is Suing X, that’s not confusing at all.
As reported by Reuters, X or Twitter is being sued by an Ad Agency based in Florida by the name of X Social Media which was founded in 2015 with the goal of connecting residents of Florida with attorneys following the Deepwater Horizon Spill. X Social Media has claimed that they’ve owned “X Social Media” since 2016 and own a federal trademark and have claimed that the rename of Twitter has caused confusion and lost revenue.
This is just one trademark dispute but there are supposedly many others who could file a suit here, this is just what happens when you pick such a stupid name. There is a reason I still refer to X as Twitter in my articles, it simply makes more sense than writing “X Formerly known as Twitter” although that would get the word count up.
For now, we have to wait to see how this unfolds.
