A new mix-tower case from X2 is now available called the Pirate 8031. It features tempered a glass side and front panel on a 0.6mm SECC steel chassis. Plus, it is quite affordable at only €44.95 or $51.95 USD. The Pirate 8031 measures 45 x 20 x 49cm and comes with three 12cm red LED cooling fans pre-installed at the front. Additional fan mounting options are available at the top (3x) and at the rear (1x).
The main chamber isolates the drive cage and PSU into a lower compartment. This opens up room to mount more components at the top and produces a cleaner appearance. Which is important if the entire left side panel is see-through. There is a cut-out on the lower compartment to allow for 240mm radiators at the front however. What is interesting about the dual chamber design on the Pirate 8031 is that the drive cage is accessible from the left side. Other cases only provide access behind the right side panel.
In terms of CPU cooler height clearance, there is a total of 180mm room allowance. Which is quite comfortable even for many high-end dual-tower air coolers which are on average around 170mm tall. For graphics cards, the lack of drive cage at the front allows room for up to 390mm long devices, even in SLI/CrossfireX. PSU length support also extends up to 210mm, however it gets tighter for the cables if longer than 180mm since there is a drive cage on the way.
