Xbox Has Finally Dropped The Prices of Series X/S Storage Expansion Cards

Xbox has announced that they are reducing the price of their disgustingly expensive official Seagate storage expansion cards for the Xbox Series S/X consoles.

Xbox Reducing Storage Expansion Card Costs

Xbox announced through a tweet that they are reducing the price of their Seagate Storage Expansion cards which are overly expensive mostly due to lack of competition. The new prices aren’t much better but price drops are always welcome although as of writing these cuts have only affected the US markets.

  • 512 GB Seagate Storage Expansion Card: $89.99 Down From $139.99
  • 1 TB Seagate Storage Expansion Card: $149.99 Down from $219.99
  • 2 TB Seagate Storage Expansion Card: $279.99 Down from $399.99

Why Are These Expansion Cards So Expensive?

Many Xbox users agree that these expansion cards were just too expensive as $219 for 1TB is awful considering the prices of most other forms of 1TB storage be it HDD, SSD or external is generally under $100. Of course, these expansion cards are proprietary which is already stupid whilst PlayStation uses much simpler M.2s. Being proprietary has meant that Seagate has had an exclusive license to these cards with no competition. No competition means they can price it however they like but this exclusivity agreement may be close to ending as we have already seen a listing for a Western Digital expansion card back in April which was listed on Best Buy. This WD black expansion card saw a cheaper price at $179 for 1TB which the Seagate card has now undercut at $149 meaning that the price of WD’s cards could drop again whenever they release.

The Seagate Storage Expansion Cards for Xbox Series X/S are available at a lower price in US markets with other markets in the EU and UK hopefully coming soon.
