Xbox One Cloud Can Power Gaikai-Like Experience

Speaking with Gamespot Microsoft’s Alberto Penello, lead planner for the Xbox One launch, stated that he believes the Xbox One can offer a cloud experience on the same level as Gaikai. Gaikai was the cloud game-streaming company which Sony took over. Albert Penello stressed the importance of the cloud to developers as it allows them to do more with the games they develop:
“When you say to the customer, we want the box to be connected, we want developers to know that the cloud is there. We’re really not trying to make up some phony thing. But there are so many things that the servers can do.”
Penello points out the advantages of the Xbox One’s cloud including the fact it can do things like voice processing or even render full games. Currently the Xbox One cloud is used by games like Titanfall and Forza Motorsport 5 to power the AI and computer-controlled opponents in the game.
“Using our Azure cloud servers, sometimes it’s things like voice processing. It could be more complicated things like rendering full games like a Gaikai and delivering it to the box. We just have to figure out how, over time, how much does that cost to deliver, how good is the experience.”
