Xbox One Controller Will Be Compatible With PC Games From 2014

According to a CVG story the Microsoft Xbox One controller will be available for PC gamers to use with their PC games from 2014. The current Xbox 360 controller is compatible with a lot of PC games, and can be made to work with incompatible games through key-to-controller binding programs. The Xbox One controller is expected to be no different, and it will be made available on the PC platform but the exact date isn’t yet known. Microsoft needs to recode the software for this new controller so that it will be backwards compatible with games that previously supported the Xbox 360 controller.

“As we’ve stated, the Xbox One controller, although it looks similar in many ways, shares no underlying technology with the current Xbox 360 controller. New wireless protocol, combined with the ability to work in ‘wired’ mode, and the addition of features like Impulse triggers, means that new software has to be written and optimized for the PC…There is also some work that we need to do to make sure that existing PC games that support the Xbox 360 controller, will work with the Xbox One controller. While it seems trivial, it’s actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user.” Stated a Microsoft representative.

Microsoft has stated that the work would be done in 2014 but gave no specific date. I personally use the Xbox 360 controller to play a lot of games including Dirt 2 and 3, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 among other games. Do you use the Xbox 360 controller for any PC gaming? If so, with what games?
